{"id":81,"date":"2022-02-19T08:49:53","date_gmt":"2022-02-19T08:49:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelairdofglencairn.wordpress.com\/?p=81"},"modified":"2025-09-12T18:51:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T18:51:26","slug":"hunting-the-re-tool-cart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horsebacksapper.co.uk\/?p=81","title":{"rendered":"Hunting the RE Tool Cart"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"viewer-foo\">The Royal Engineers had a specialist wagon for the transportation of RE tools, it was designed to be a 2 part cart, with each cart carrying 4 tool boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-7ranp\">The Army publications show that Field Squadrons and Field Companies could have upto 4 of the double carts. when the carts are used singly they are pulled by a 2 horse team and the double cart would be pulled by a 4 or 6 horse team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-epltu\">Finding examples of the cart in the Great war are very rare, I come across several photos of the cart from the Victorian and Edwardian period. This photo is taken from the Navy &amp; Army Illustrated, February 1903 and shows the carts in tandem and pulled by a 4 horse team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-f95q6\">The other interesting aspect of this image is the Riders and crew in the red jackets and dark blue Home Service Helmets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/horsebacksapper.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/5a240-file.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-83\" srcset=\"https:\/\/horsebacksapper.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/5a240-file.jpg 750w, https:\/\/horsebacksapper.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/5a240-file-300x106.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-8suoh\">But otherwise I&#8217;ll continue to look for the tool cart in the Great War.
